Miriam Celis Hernández tiene 59 años, nació en el caserío de Sayamud, provincia de San Miguel de Pallaques, Cajamarca, en la sierra norte del Perú. Por su destreza y conocimiento de diversas técnicas textiles es considerada una maestra. Aprendió a hilar lana de oveja y a tejer fajas a los nueve años, y se ha ganado la vida tejiendo en un telar de cintura. Hace 10 años trabaja con nosotros capacitando en tejido fino con este instrumento.

Miriam Celis Hernández is 59 years old and was born in a hamlet of Sayamud in the San Miguel de Pallaques province, Cajamarca, in the highlands in northern Peru. She is considered a master for her skill and knowledge of textile techniques. She learned to spin sheep’s wool and knit sashes at just nine years old, and makes a living by weaving using a backstrap loom. She has worked with us for 10 years, offering training others the art of fine weaving using this ancient tool.
